Czech man falls to his death on Mount Aspiring in New Zealand

A mountaineer fell several hundred meters at his death on Mount Aspiring in the Southern Alps of New Zealand, police said Wednesday.

"The man, who is supposed to be a tourist, fell from the northwest ridge, the road most often climbed to the top of 3000 meters from the mountain, and on a glacier," police said.

It was reported that the climber was a Czech man in the mid 20s.

However, the police had still not confirmed the identity of the man.

Wanaka Police search and rescue volunteers took three hours to locate and recover the body of the man.

Rescue coordinator, Sgt. Aaron Nicholson climber describes death as a tragedy.

"The busy start of the outdoor season is a serious reminder of the risks inherent in mountaineering," he said Nicholson.
