The Lagos State police arrested a middle-aged woman, Linda Alapa, for beating her 10-year-old waitress, Joy Mbafan, to death.
Mbafan lived with the suspect in Bolanle Oduniyi Street, Okegbegun in the Ikorodu area of the state.
PUNCH Metro learned that Alapa was beating the girl for an offense of about 3 hours, on Monday when he collapsed and later died.
In the morgue at the general hospital Ikorodu where he had gone to lay the body of Mbafan, he told a doctor in the ring had noticed signs of violence on the body and alerted the police in the Highway Sagamu division.
A police source said that after the interrogation, confessed Alapa hit the girl, adding that he would be accused of murder.

Some residents of the street Bolanle Oduniyi, who spoke to PUNCH Metro on Wednesday said they had repeatedly warned to stop attacking the victim in vain.
A neighbor of the suspect said Alapa not only hit the girl, but also deprived of food.
The woman, named only as Ellen, said that even if she did not know what was what led to the beating that day, "typically hit the girl by cluttering her apartment."

Another resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the girl's father was delayed while her mother was sick, adding that Alapa had brought to Lagos a village in eastern Nigeria.

Deploring the death of Mbafan, a trader, who identified only as Deborah, she told PUNCH Metro that he had exhorted the suspect to a Mbafan lawyer instead of corporal punishment.
