Governor Akinwunmi Ambode said Saturday that one of the objectives of his administration was to propel the state of Lagos to the third largest economy in Africa.
To do so, the administration would concentrate more on education, especially on vocational training, adding that health facilities would be rehabilitated, while the renewal and construction of world-class infrastructures would continue in 2017.
Ambode, who spoke at the Christmas Eve dance, organized by the Yoruba tennis club, Onikan, said he remains committed to making the state globally competitive.
He said, "Lagos is currently home to 65 percent of Nigeria's companies, with a presence of more than 2,000 manufacturing companies, 200 financial institutions and the largest collection of small and medium-sized enterprises in Africa.
The governor added that with an estimated population of about 24 million people, more than 15.2 million were aged 15 and 64, who had positioned Lagos as the state with the largest labor force in sub-Saharan Africa.
"We are the fastest-growing market in Africa and still the fifth largest economy in Africa with a GDP of $ 91 billion." Our $ 131 billion decline in GDP is a result of currency fluctuations, but our ultimate goal is To move our GDP from 5th to 3rd place in Africa, "added Ambode.
Congratulating the club for its 90th anniversary, the governor said he was determined to provide a safe, clean and prosperous Lagos.
Ambode expressed optimism that with the 2017 Golden Jubilee budget currently under consideration by the State House of Assembly, the state has been adequately positioned to record important events in the coming year.
"In addition to celebrating the anniversary of the Golden Jubilee, 2017 will witness the beginning and completion of the critical infrastructure that will create new economies in the state, facilitate growth and propel the economy State to enviable heights, "he said.
