Police arrested more than 200 people at the country music festival Sydney on New Year's Day, including a woman who reportedly was carrying 130 ecstasy pills.
About 28,000 music fans attended Field Day, with the police arresting 204 people for more than 215 offenses. Most of them were for possession and supply of drugs, police said.
The arrests were the result of a police operation at the event, which included local officials, the dog team, police licenses and transport officials.
Police said a 24-year-old woman had been found 130 pills of ecstasy and over $ 2,000 in cash. She was charged with two counts of banned drug supply and treatment of proceeds of property crime.
Judging by the media, police repression only moistened spirits to the event in the field.
The paramedics treated about 70 patients for a variety of problems, including problems related to alcohol and drugs.
The police said they were satisfied with the behavior of those attending the festival, despite the many arrests made during the day.
"We are working closely with the organizers to ensure the festival is safe and fun, and we are pleased that the vast majority of revelers behaved well," said Operation Commander Andrew Marks.
"It is disappointing that there were still people who ignored our advice and attempted to bring illegal drugs beyond the drug detector dogs and doors.
"The safety and well-being of the people participating in the event is our number one priority and we will continue to conduct operations such as these in major music festivals to help ensure that events are in security."
The president of the Foundation for Drug Law Reform in Australia, Alex Wodak said that many arrests and potential overdose, illustrating the need for a trial of pills in festivals.
"I think we should try to manage the risk, rather than eliminate the risk," Wodak told ABC Monday's chain.
"The union of abstinence just does not cut through, people obviously continue to be at risk takedrugs and will allow us to reduce that risk.
"I think we need to have proof of the pill, which has been widely used in Europe for 20 years and seems to work well."
Meanwhile, a reveler at a rave party in Queensland died after taking a substance that would have let him scream and scratch the ground.
It was reported that the police were called to the YewbuNYE rave in Mount Lindesay, about 140 kilometers southwest of Brisbane on Sunday after bad reactions to the "unknown substance."
