more than 150 inmates have escaped from a south Philippines jail after gunmen released an assault. The government suspect the gunmen are related to Islamist separatist organizations.

Dozens of armed men stormed the jail and engaged in a shootout with guards, as prisoners fled inside the chaos. One protect turned into killed and an inmate injured.

The Philippines, that's predominantly Catholic, has battled separatists within the south for many years, amid kidnappings, violence and jailbreaks.

The modern day jail ruin befell on the North Cotabato District jail close to Kidapawan metropolis, at the island of Mindanaon
