No relationship is perfect and there can never be an exact set of rules to determine whether the person you’re with is actually the one who was meant to be, the one who should be here to stay, and the one who is truly worth all your time and efforts. But there are still some things that are required in every relationship at one point or the other, if not always. If you feel like your partner NEVER does most of these 10 things, then it’s probably time to let him go.
1. He listens to you
One of the main advantages of being in a relationship is getting a person who will be there through it all, a person who you can call at 3am in the night just to rant your heart out, and a person who will always listen to whatever you have to say without a single complaint. And this listening doesn’t just involve a simple nodding or shrugging of his shoulders, but he should be able to look deep into your eyes and show consideration and interest in the things you have to say.
2. He lets you have your space
One of the first signs of a toxic relationship is when a partner keeps trying to control the other, and starts to become too dependent and clingy at all times. Both of you need some peace and quiet at times. Both of you need to have some time on your own just to pursue your own interests and passions in life. And both of you need to have a life outside of this relationship as well. And if you feel like your partner tries his best to make sure this never happens, it’s time to start reconsidering your options.
3. He respects your body
The only person who is allowed to have any control over your body is YOU! If you wish to wait some time before getting too physical or if you have set any kind of sexual limitations, he needs to respect them. It’s true that intimacy is a significant part of every relationship but the levels of intimacy you reach should always be based on mutual consent.
4. He knows how to validate your feelings
Understanding or helping someone out in an emotional situation doesn’t involve dictating them about the reasons behind why they should or shouldn’t be feeling a specific way. Instead, your partner should know how to help you reach your own solutions by providing a safe environment where they acknowledge your actual emotions, and show empathy towards you.
5. He texts you just to check in
It’s not possible for any couple to spend every waking minute of their day together . It’s not always possible for them to talk on call for long hours every day. And it’s not even possible to keep texting each other after every few minutes. But one thing that is totally possible is to send in a message at
least once or twice during the day just to let them know you’re thinking about them, just to ask how they’re doing, and just to remind them that there is someone out there who truly cares about them.
6. He knows how to make you laugh
I’m not implying here that your partner needs to be the funniest person on this planet or that he should always have a joke up his sleeve just to amuse you. But if you’ve never shared a single moment where you were just laughing endlessly for no reason, if you’ve never found the same things funny in life or even in a TV show, and if you feel like your partner doesn’t really have the potential to make you laugh, then there’s a high possibility that things are not going to work out too well.
7. He gets along well with your family and friends
It’s not necessary that your partner should be best friends with your siblings and friends or that he should always do things in a way that impresses your parents. But if your partner doesn’t even at least try to build a relationship with them and win them over in some way, then he is definitely not worth your time.
8. He calls you when he is in a crisis
When a person calls you for help or just to share some troubles in their time of need, it shows how you were the first person on their mind when they needed to relieve their stress. You deserve a guy who treats you as a top priority and finds comfort in just the sound of your voice.
9. He satisfies you in bed
If you’re with a guy who is never interested in satisfying you in bed, a guy who only cares about his own pleasure and never even asks to make sure you’re happy, then why are you still with him in the first place ?
10. He asks questions
Have you ever had a meaningful conversation with your guy? Do you ever feel like he tries to know you on the deepest level? Is he always asking you more questions just to understand you a little better? If the answer to all or any of these questions is a no, then you definitely have a problem here.
